ESCAPAHOLICS Ladakh - Mountains...the roof of the world

My name is Giles and I’m an escapaholic.
Its been 402 days since my last adventure …..and nothing beats a selfie. And what a backdrop for my lovely selfie. Chilling by the pool – a bit of R&R, cocktail in hand, before the most crazy, amazing escapapde in Ladakh, north India. Tibetan temples, abseiling off mountains, trekking to unbelievably high mountain passes and ridiculous sub-zero temperatures – crazy games and challenges in the mountains. These guys – how do they think these things up? A surreal place in a surreal landscape. Never been anywhere remotely like it. Nothing beats a selfie….except may be slightly salted yak butter tea….. My name is Giles and  I'm an escapaholic

ESCAPAHOLICS Ladakh Itinerary
This is a bespoke spring / summer event. Give us a shout for a corporate or group trip.

Unbelievable.... A tough and crazy trip to the Tibetan plateau in Ladakh. From the usual sensory explosion of Delhi to this utterly remote part of India, close to China. The capital city of Leh, overlooked by Leh palace, and in a region dotted with monasteries and gompas and close to the might Indus, with a trekking adventure over 5 days upto 17,000 feet. All this makes escapaholics Ladakh a “steaming hot chai with extra spice” of an adventure. With all the fun, frolics, chaos and majesty of Delhi, mix the magic of local expertise, dramatic harsh high desert and mountain scenery, with excitement straight from a Tin Tin book, and season with a generous sprinkling of adrenaline and adventure.

Day 1 - Delhi
Arrival in Delhi to meet up with your fellow escapaholic, with transport (local style) to the iconic Maidens Hotel. Time to relax before heading to see some of the sites of Delhi and a taste of escpaholic escpades.
Evening Welcome drinks and dinner.
Overnight at Maidens

Day 2 - Delhi
An early start to tour Old Delhi (Shahjahanabad) by cycle. A zippy tour as the old city awakes followed by…what else…got curry for breakfast. (Veg option available!)
A visit to our charity, the Shiksharath slum academy, tour of the slums and meet the kids.
Time to relax at the Maidens, prior to heading to the mountains on Day 3.

Day 3 to 5 - Delhi to Leh
Following a morning Flight to Leh, we spend the next few days acclimatising to the altitude. Relaxing, wandering the streets, drinking chai. We explore ancient monasteries, visit local sites, enjoy some adrenaline challenges and take in the ambience off this amazing ‘roof top’ town high in the Himalayas.
A truely unique landscape. We vist gompas and temples. We lunch with a ladakhi family enjoying local cuisine and the ubiquitous yak butter tea. So refreshing. So delicious. And time to experience the high ropesin a stunning location.
As we acclimatise, a further tour to the highest road in the world, with breath taking views of the Karakoram ranges, (or white out in a snow blizzard….

Day 6 to 10 - High altitude trekking phase
The next few days is spent trekking up to Lasermo La at over 5,400m. The first day of our escapaholics trek, cycling from Leh we gradually ascend away from the mighty Indus River. A refreshing dip is tempting (or not) but at these altitudes, we will leave it for the moment. You see – we CAN be sensitive.

Heading past gompas we head towards the snowy peaks, camping alongside villages and shepherds winter homes as we trek towards the snow line. Sandwiched between a few ‘Endeavour Challenges’ we trek through the high altitude desert, amidst soaring peaks and truely stunning scenery. Camping at the South Base of Lasermo La perched above the Indus Valley with amazing views of the Karakoram Ranges, before summitting the mountain peak. Escapaholics always sleep well on this stretch. With thin air and freezing water bottles in the tents, our Indian Army sleeping bags will convince you that you are relaxing in the 5* luxury.

The final day is a relaxing downhill dash down the mountains all the way to Leh.

Day 11 - Leh to Delhi
Take the flight to Delhi in the morning.
Relax by the pool, wander the streets of Old Delhi, visit the sites or take in the wonder of the Jama Majid.
Celebrations, final dinner and awards ceremony.

Day 12 - Delhi

Transit to the airport. Adventurers return home at various times.
